The virtue of gratitude heals the resentment caused by jealousy, greed and selfishness and replaces their destructiveness. Gratitude as a virtue is most practical for me; it opens my eyes and heart to the goodness of God, of others, of life and of me. Oh yes, I have had my share of childhood losses and hurts and I have had years of sickness; I see those occasions as sources for me to be caring and understanding now.
Expressing gratitude lessens the power that jealousy, greed and selfishness has over me. “Progress not perfection”, it works! The virtue of Gratitude is a wonderful expression of both of the virtues of Adoration and Love.”

Fr. Peter’s Gratitude Exercise:
For two weeks, write down five “things” for which you are grateful on each day. Don’t repeat any items. At the end of the two weeks read out loud (preferably to someone else) the seventy reasons you have to be grateful. You should be overwhelmed.
