1. New members of the MSC community take first vows, also known as temporary vows. Only after a period of three years of further discernment and study do members make a life-long commitment to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart by taking perpetual vows, also known as final vows. For candidates to the priesthood, after taking perpetual vows, another couple years of preparation are usually required before their ordination to the priesthood.
