Letter from a Daughter of OLSH working in South Sudan: My most recent workshop was on Family Life, relationships, roles, issues, etc. Since the whole class is illiterate we rely on sketches for getting the message across. The venue of this workship was not more than 200m from a cattle camp of over 1000 animals and seemingly as many keepers. During the week two marriages were being planned there; the more discussed bride-to-be, "tall, beautiful and able to work from morning to night without tiring" was finally forced into being 3rd wife to someone quite older. His was the final bid of 120 cows. Regarding my educational involvements, we are about to complete the construction of a staff room and a double classroom block at Makur Agar, using bricks made by the school children there. I am really proud of their efforts. The bricks were fired and thankfully are very strong. Ugandan workers are completing construction work and Grade 8 students will actually do their end-of-year exams in the new classrooms. Satellite schools have taken second place this year due to my increased involvement with women. As the Government tries to form, it is becoming increasingly involved in these schools. Thanks to all our benefactors. The above is a letter from Sr. Rita, FDNSC who lives and works in Mapuordit, Sudan, to the MSC Mission Office in Australia and published in Mission Outreach Newsletter, Issue 30. The MSC Mission Office is a project of the Australian MSC Province and provides financial assistance for three types of programs to directly serve the "poorest of the poor": Clean Water Projects, Disadvantaged Youth, and HIV/AIDS. Over 95% of donations go directly to the programs. If you'd like more information, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
