While Catholic Teaching tells us that we have both a right and a responsibility to work, work is not meant to be the only focus of our lives. We also need to leave room for adequate rest and time with our family, as well as for personal and spiritual activities. “Work is for the worker,” and not the other way around.
One way to reduce the tension between our professional and personal lives is to work to make the workplace more family-friendly. Some family-friendly policies include paid sick days and vacation time, paid family leave for both mothers and fathers, and flexibility in arranging work schedules.
