Almighty God came to our world and shared our human nature as a baby, being “born of a woman,” as we read in the letter to the Galatians. God wanted to have a mother, who was specially chosen and therefore “full of grace.” As we honor our own mother this weekend, we recall the fact that Jesus, in his dying words on the cross, gave us his mother to be our mother also, the mother of the Mystical Body of Jesus, the Church: “Behold, your mother.” Mother’s Day is also a feastday of our Blessed Mother, Mary. Historically, she brought Jesus into the world. Her role now is to bring the world to Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners . . . .
