Each Christmas and Holy Week, the MSC seminarians in Bogotá, Colombia, go to the remote areas of the country to accompany and assist under served children, men and women of communities most in need.Christmas is just around the corner.  Each Christmas and Holy Week, the MSC seminarians in Bogotá, Colombia, go to the remote areas of the country to accompany and assist under served children, men and women of communities most in need.  Many of the areas our seminarians visit are only reachable by a 3-4 hour walk or horseback ride.

Most of the people we serve are farmers and day laborers.  They have limited access to public health and human services, and many communities lack water and sewage systems which causes sanitation problems.  People in these communities do not have  easy access to the Eucharist because the priests can only visit them every two or three months. Although the people are very poor, they welcome the seminarians warmly because they know that the seminarians will share and  encourage their faith. They are very hospitable and know how to give, even in their poverty.  Once the seminarians arrive to the towns, they visit the families and get to know their life situations, they talk to them, prepare talks of accompaniment for couples, children, young adults and adults.  The seminarians read the Word of God and explain the passages and also celebrate the novenas and the Liturgies of the Word with the families.

Our missionaries and seminarians accompany and reeducate those whom the State has left alone at the mercy of luck, the guerillas and the paramilitaries. We bring help on a spiritual level and hope for a better life. The missions are important because the work that we do with the people can counteract the violence, poverty and destitution in which many Colombian communities live.
