One of the aspects of engaging in dialogue is finding common ground, but sometimes it can be difficult to find areas where we agree. Below are a few examples of places to start:
We are all God's Children
- Islam, Judaism and Christianity are all monotheistic religions, teaching that there is only one God.
- Many religious traditions recognize a Supreme Being.
- Islam and Christianity both honor Mary in a special way.
- Followers of several religions practice a healthy detachment from material possessions and seek more authentic freedom. For instance, various forms of Buddhism teaches a way in which people may be able to acquire the state of perfect liberation or supreme illumination. Hindu meditation is also a means of seeking freedom from some aspects of the human condition.
- Many religions recognize the importance of how we treat others as well as how we treat our environment. At least some principles of social justice can often be shared by people who believe in God, as well as agnostics and atheists.
