MSC Dinner Dance 2010 A Success! PDF Print
Tuesday, 04 May 2010 13:41

Children from the Korean Catholic Church in Milwaukee, WI (where Fr. Ben Ko, MSC works on weekends) perform the “doll dance” at the 39th MSC Dinner Dance in Aurora, IL. The Doll Dance is one of the traditions during the celebration of the Lunar New Year. Thank you to everyone, volunteers, staff and participants, who made our 39th annual Dinner Dance Benefit in Aurora, IL a success! With your help, we are able to help support the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Korea. South Korea’s economy attracts over one million immigrant workers and these workers are often vulnerable and sometimes their employers take advantage of this vulnerability and refuse to pay them a proper salary. The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart work for justice in these situations and strive to protect the workers’ human rights, in addition to providing them with counseling and sacraments. In addition to working to protect the human rights of foreign workers and sailors, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Korea also run a youth shelter and provide food for children in North Korea (distribution is monitored through the services of the International Red Cross).

Friends of the MSC gather at the MSC Dinner Dance in Aurora, IL. We would like to extend a special thank you to Fr. Benedict Ko, MSC for celebrating the Korean Mass beforehand and also for sharing about his country and the work of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart there. We would also like to thank the members of the Korean communities of Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL for joining us and for sharing a glimpse of Korean culture, both through homemade traditional desserts (Korean rice cake and Korea rice cookies) and a traditional dance performed by the children of the Korean Catholic Church in Milwaukee.

Fr. Benedict Ko, MSC (center), a Missionary of the Sacred Heart from Korea, celebrates Korean Mass before the MSC Dinner Dance on Sunday, April 25. Fr. Ben is currently studying at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, IL and is joined by two of his classmates, who are also priests from Korea. We are a missionary Church, and the principle of solidarity challenges us to be global citizens, to see other people and nations as our neighbors. Thank you for helping us put this solidarity into practice and live out our missionary character by supporting the great work that our brothers are doing in Korea.

Mark your calendars: our 40th Annual Dinner Dance Benefit will be on April 10th at the same location (Gaslight Manor,  2485 Church Road, Aurora, IL).
