National Human Trafficking Awareness Day PDF Print
Monday, 11 January 2010 22:31
In the United States, January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Please join us today in prayer for the millions men, women and children trafficked into modern day slavery, including forced labor, sex slavery and domestic servitude.

Human trafficking is a horrible violation of the dignity of the human person both because victims’ basic human rights are violated and because the act of trafficking reduces a person to a means of profit. According to the US State Department, approximately 800,000 people are trafficked across national borders into slavery. Millions more are trafficked within their own countries. The United States is a destination country for thousands of people from other countries who are trafficked for the purposes of sexual and labor exploitation. In addition, thousands of children living in the United States are at risk of being trafficked into the sex industry. (According to Shared Hope International, at least 100,000 American children are being commercially sexually exploited in the United States.)
