Sharing Gratitude Print
Tuesday, 16 February 2010 09:43

Fr. Paul R. Grenon, Pastor of Saints John and Paul Church in Coventry, RI recently wrote us a grateful message for having Fr. John Schweikert, MSC at the Parish Mission last year. In his message, Fr. Grenon said that a contemplative mission draws a whole parish together and it gives a sense of renewal in people’s hearts and talked about what Fr. Schweikert brought to the Mission. “The special emphasis of the parish mission is helping people to let go of anything destructive in their lives that limits their openness to receiving God’s gifts and the gifts of others. Our lives are full of hurts and losses. They are our daily crosses and are especially hard to bear when they are out of our control. We take up our cross when we honestly face the reality of our hurts and losses and when we humbly admit and experience the pain of them. We become free when we forgive people we blame.” (Fr. Grenon).

Fr. Schweikert currently conducts parish missions and retreats throughout the country.

Fr. Edward B. Connolly of  St. Joseph Parish and St Vincent DePaul Parish in Girardville, PA also had wonderful things to say about Fr. Schweikert. In his letter, Fr. Connolly wrote, “On behalf of my two parishes, I express my gratitude for the spiritual ministry of Father John Schweikert, a member of your Mission Band. He was with us from 28 November to 3 December. I had had a “nodding acquaintance” with Father Schweikert for a number of years and was aware of his reputation as a dedicated and effective preacher and evangelizer. I am happy to affirm from experience that his good reputation is well deserved. I admire his humility and his graciousness towards me and towards my people. He was a most welcome guest. We were blessed to have him for these last few days…”
