Sin paralyzes. Forgivness heals.
“Child, your sins are forgiven…rise, pick up your mat and go home.”
Jesus calls each of us “son” or “daughter” and forgives. Do we believe him? Do we allow him? So many times each of us becomes paralyzed by our hurts, pains and disillusionments. Other times we are paralyzed by our toxic guilt. Sometimes we need someone to pick us up and carry us to him!
Whatever the way that we finally get to him, Jesus will always greet us with love and will forgive. The forgiveness heals. With him, I can let go of past hurts done to me and also forgive myself for my own failings. When that happens, I can do what Isaiah asks in the first reading: “Remember not the things of the past and the things long ago consider not; see, I am doing something new!”
Lent begins in a few days. It is a time of forgiveness and healing.
