Educate Others
Help educate people in your parish about Catholic social teaching and how it applies to the criminal justice system, especially the death penalty. Ask your pastor if you can host a community discussion on the death penalty. Get group discussion ideas and handouts from http://usccb.org/deathpenalty/educate.shtml
Speak Out
Advocate against the use of the death penalty. Find out if there are efforts to end the death penalty in your state by contacting the Catholic conference in your state. Go to www.nasccd.org/directory/index.html to get the contact information for your state.
If the death penalty is still allowed in your state, contact your governor and state legislators and urge them to end the use of capital punishment. Also write your U.S. Senators and Representative to ask them to support efforts to end the federal use of the death penalty. Find a sample letter at http://usccb.org/deathpenalty/advocate.shtml
Pray
For victims of crime and for their families... For those awaiting execution and for their loved ones... For those who have been wrongly convicted... For a greater awareness of and respect for the dignity of the human person.... For an end to the use of the death penalty in the United States and around the world....
