In Colombia Today

Today, in addition to Santa Margarita Maria Parish, MSC in Colombia are also involved in formation and provide direct assistance to the poor. The formation program (Casa Chevalier) is flourishing and 6 young men recently took their first vows (August 2008). As part of their formation, the seminarians studying at Casa Chevalier go on mission experiences to very remote areas in Colombia during their Christmas and Easter vacations. Seminarians also help manage the MSC farm, thereby helping to provide the food they eat.

Jesús Benavides The MSC community in Colombia is preparing to welcome several new members!! It is an exciting summer for the Colombian Section of the USA Province of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. Our professed student, Eduard Riascos, MSC is receiving the Ministry of Acolyte and taking his final vows this month. Soon there will be six more professed MSC students! In their meetings in June 2008, the Provincial Council of the MSC USA Province approved six Novices for first vows: William Tamayo; Favio Castro Andino; Faiber Antonio Vargas; Jesús Adrian Benavides; Juan Pablo Romero and Guillermo Cuarán.Guillermo Cuarán (2nd from left), Father General (3rd from left) and MSC Novices

Jesús and Juan are currently finishing the Novitiate in Brazil, while William, Favio, Guillermo, and Faiber are in the Dominican Republic. All six Novices will be taking their first vows this August in Bogotá, Colombia and thanks to their time spent abroad, all six already have some experience with what it means to live the missionary life.

We are also happy to announce that three Colombian MSC seminarians, Jesús Felipe Trejo, Ernesto Caicedo and William Andrés Tovar have been approved to enter the Novitiate which will begin in the Dominican Republic on August 15, 2008. We are delighted to welcome our newest members of our MSC community in Colombia and we keep them in our prayers as they continue on their journey.
