In our Catholic tradition, we say that we are surrounded by a “cloud of witnesses”. This usually refers to all of the canonized saints who have been officially recognized by our church for their exemplary lives. They stand as witnesses to us of God’s goodness and point us to Christ as the way to eternal life.
But they are not the only witnesses for us of God’s presence among us. Our loved ones who have gone before us also belong to this great community. We pray for them, especially during the month of November, asking that they may come to the fullness of life in God’s Kingdom of Heaven. We believe that the process of preparing for union with God starts in this life and continues after we leave this earth. Therefore, our loved ones continue to need our prayers and good works even after they are no longer with us physically.
As we pray for them, we are invited to unite our prayer to those of others who are praying for these same intentions. When you send in the names of your loved ones to us, we join our prayers to yours for them and for your special intentions. These requests for prayer are placed at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart located at our Retirement Community in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Remembering deceased loved ones in this way continues to foster the missionary work of our community as we strive to make the Sacred Heart of Jesus known and loved everywhere. May the remembrance of our loved ones in this way be a sign of hope for all of us as we look forward to meeting them again the life God promises to all who follow His teachings.
