To know God’s love is truly thine / we must embrace it as divine.
For us to own this from the start / the Lord gave us a human heart.
It’s not that reason has no role / in how to reach this awesome goal,
But finding meaning in the end / without exception must depend
On unconditionality.
Most likely you have never heard / that plain but convoluted word.
It shows how purpose has the say / in what it is that makes your day.
Thus, sheer intent must prove to be / both selfless and completely free!
And acts performed without pretense / can show that even love makes sense.
Yet what if love did not have worth / among the options here on earth?
Or why, pray tell, we cannot find / fair love except in humankind!
Indeed, love’s value on review, / transcends all else that we might do,
While self-love vainly strives to kill / the selflessness required by free will.
To think false love could be the tool, / for us to use to break love’s rule
Adds up to trusting that we might / use darkness to engender light.
But human wills can’t set us free / from ego’s innate gravity.
In fact, you may say with a nod / love could not be. . . were there no God!
Crude science cannot fathom love / nor tell if there’s a God above.
Nor should it be a big surprise / that we can’t see God with our eyes.
Note too that reason can’t deploy / an existential sense of joy.
For that we need what makes us whole / our body and immortal soul.
The love we fashion is our own / although by logic it’s on loan,
For nature has decreed the need / for unconditionality. But wait!
We need not strain our brain / or think that we might go insane.
The joy of being merry and carefree / comes with the trust that from eternity:
The TRINITY made CHRISTMAS the REALITY!
