In the 1960’s Pope Paul VI invited religious communities and dioceses to send priests and religious to South and Central America, because at that time it was where the majority of Catholics lived in the world. The USA/MSC Province sent two priests, Fr. Thomas Hayden and Fr. Thomas Carney, to investigate possibilities of mission ministry. After traveling through several South American countries, they arrived in Bogota, Colombia, in 1967. A two-room building was hastily constructed in December of 1967 to meet the deadline requirements to obtain the deed, thus, our mission in Colombia began.

Diaconate Ordination

On February 2, 2025, in the parish of St. Margaret Mary of Alacoque, the diaconate ordination of Antonio Posadas Cruz, MSC, was celebrated. The celebration was presided by the Bishop, Monsignor Juan Vincente Cordoba Villeta. The ordination took place in the presence of the parishioners and groups of the parish, as well as members of the congregation, MSC, Colombia section,
and the provincial superior, Father Michael Miller, MSC.

It was a pleasant moment, since it was shared with the community and later a special moment with the members of the congregation, close friends and Antonio’s family, among them, his mother Emma Cruz and his sister Dulce Maria Posadas who traveled from Michoacan, Mexico, to accompany Antonio at the moment of the ordination.

“I thank God for the gift of life, my parents and siblings for their support, trust and love. To my congregation, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, for accompanying me throughout the process and for being part of this divine gift”.
— Antonio Posados
