The Healing Love of Jesus
“And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness…” (Mt 9:36; 4:23)
“That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He cast out the spirits with a word and cured all who were sick. This was to fulfil the prophecy of Isaiah: ‘He took our sicknesses away and carried our diseases for us’.” (Mt 8:16-17)
“Then from behind him came a woman, who had suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years and she touched the fringe of his cloak… Jesus turned round and saw her; and he said to her, ‘Courage, my daughter, your faith has restored you to health’. From that moment the woman was well again.” (Mt 9:20-22)
Jesus came to proclaim the Good News that was hidden from the foundation of the world. The Good News was that God had a message of salvation for all men in Jesus Christ. He willed that all be saved, all be healed, all be made completely whole. Jesus did not come to save only souls, but the whole man. He begins in this world to make each one whole physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. The love of his Heart immediately went out to those he saw in trouble. “Of course, I will, be cured.” As the woman with the hemorrhage touched the fringe of his cloak, healing power from God went out of him and healed her; now her strength would be complete. When he saw the people wandering aimlessly he had compassion on their searching and yearning for God and gave them the direction they needed through his message of love from the Father. When he saw people mentally and emotionally disturbed, no matter what the cause, he would use his power to heal them. He knows the difficulties we have in following the path to union with God, the desert, the deep inner need that has gone unfulfilled, the hurts unhealed, the heart unloved, the good rejected, the tormenting guilt and anxieties, the resentments never overcome, the fear of being unaccepted, the habits of many years of drifting spiritually, the bitterness at the injustice about us, buried memories of a lifetime, and countless failures at accepting God’s plan for us. In the Heart of Jesus all these can be healed. By His stripes we are healed. He bore our infirmities.
We thank you, Lord Jesus, for the love with which you bore our infirmities, the constancy with which you sought our healing. We thank you for giving us a share in that victory you won over sickness and death, physical and spiritual. We praise you for showing God’s power and truth to your people; for teaching us that God’s will was not sickness and misery, but health and life in abundance. We thank you Jesus for helping us to make all things yes; that there be no yes and no in us but only yes to your love in its fulness that your work may be completed in us. We will proclaim your healing love to all our brothers.
