In the name of the MSC Province in the United States of America, we are filled with emotions of joy, surprise, and hope upon hearing the news of the election of Pope Leo XIV. We are joyful that the Cardinals in the conclave elected a successor to Pope Francis after an anticipated deliberation. As most people are, we are surprised that the new Pope comes from the United States of America, as well as being a citizen of Peru. As pope he is leader of the Church and a citizen of the world. Our hope is that he will lead the Church in the coming years following the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Pope Leo XIV has many talents and skills, as well as many pastoral and leadership experiences on three continents, to lead the Catholic Church and the world during his pontificate. His Augustinian spirituality will keep him grounded in the faith.
Our prayer for him is that he be a true and faithful witness to Jesus Christ in announcing the Good News to the citizens of the world. May he be a prayerful man of love and compassion to all!
