Forty days after Easter, we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Following His resurrection, we attest to Jesus’ bodily ascent into heaven. Christ’s earthly mission is now completed as He sits at the right hand of the Father. Here, He will intercede for humanity as the eternal High Priest (Hebrews 1: 3-4). The event also prepares the way for Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descends upon the apostles, empowering them to carry out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8)
While the Ascension is an historical event, it is truly a living mystery. It is a feast of mission, hope, and the continued presence of Christ in the lives of his followers and believers.
